Welcome to the Admissions section of the BRVGS website. We encourage any student who has an interest in exploring new ways of learning and different opportunities to build academic skills to apply to BRVGS. The application process itself is a great preparation for other admission processes, such as that of applying to college.  Please contact local school officials for information on applying to BRVGS through your local school system.

Admissions Process

The Blue Ridge Virginia Governor’s School is an Academic Year Governor’s School that provides a challenging and differentiated program of studies in core academic subjects, emphasizing mathematics, science, and technology. The program utilizes collaborative technology, field trips, and an emphasis on future-ready skills to create a regional community of learners from the counties of Fluvanna, Goochland, Greene, Louisa, Madison, Nelson, and Orange.

Applications will be available starting in October and are due to middle school counselors or designated school officials by the December due date. The online application will be available only during the time frame established by the BRVGS Steering Committee. This allows all eligible students to have the same access and opportunity to apply for admissions to this program.

Each BRVGS school is limited to 18 acceptances per year for incoming freshmen, although some BRVGS localities have added an additional section of 18. Please check with local officials regarding the number that the division accepts.

Finalists and alternates are chosen by the selection committee in each school district. No review of the selection committee’s assessment of students is done by the Blue Ridge Virginia Governor's School. Any appeal of the local student selection committee’s decision must follow the local school system’s appeal procedures.

It is recommended that parents and students contact their local guidance counselor for specific information regarding application dates and other related information.
