Madison Students go to Georgia to Help Habitat for Humanity

A Report from BRVGS Senior:

My trip to Tucker, Georgia to work on a Habitat for Humanity build was a really great experience that I am glad I was able to share with three other Madison BRVGS students and my advisor. The other students included Alex Park, Jenny Zhang, and Emily Aylor. We all enjoyed the build so much that we were disappointed that there were two rain days. In the three days we did work, the progress we made was significant.

William Monroe Students Visit Neuroscience Labs at UVA

The 10th graders at WMHS visited four different Neuroscience Labs at UVA this past month.  The four labs were Harris Labs Bland labsBeenhakker labs, and Fruit Fly Lab.

Harris Labs did ground breaking research this summer by discovering the Lymphatic Vessels that go into the brain.

Bland Labs is where new research is being done on the genetics of insulin signaling.

Beenhakker Labs is working with electrical brain signaling.

Fruit Fly Labs showed the students transformation to glowing larva.

It was AMAZING and eye opening for all who attended.

Would YOU like to be an Evaluator at one of the BRVGS Senior Expos?

BRVGS is always looking for extra people wiling to help be Evaluators for our Senior Expos!  Evaluators provide a great oppurtunity for our Seniors to explain thier year long projects in the context of a professional conversation.  The Senior Expos are setup in a "science fair" format. Teams of 2 or 3 adult Evaluators will go around and speak to a pre-determined list of seniors about how they spent thier time during thier Senior Project.  You do not need any experience to be an Evalutaor.  We will team you up with someone that has done it before and give you specific directions and a scoring rubric.

This year there will be two Senior Expos -

  1. Senior Expo A - Monday, May 8th - 9:30-12:30 - Best Western Plus Crossroads Inn & Suites - 135 Wood Ridge Terrace, Zion Crossroads, VA 22942
  2. Senior Expo B - Friday, May 12th - 9:30-12:30 - Taylor Education Admistration Complex - 202 Dailey Dr, Orange, VA 22960

BRVGS World History Students Reflect on DC War Memorials

BRVGS World History students visited Washington, DC last week to see memorials to World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War and the Holocaust.  Students took pictures and reflected on the features of each memorial, and posted those pictures and reflections into a website.   You can see the students' photos and thoughts at: https://sites.google.com/a/brvgs.k12.va.us/brvgs-war-memorials-spring-2017/home
