BRVGS Student and Teacher Recognized!

Blue Ridge Virtual Governor’s School is pleased to note the recent recognitions of Nadia Anderson, a 10th grade BRVGS student at Orange County High School, and Brett Derrico, 9th grade World History teacher and Senior Advisor for BRVGS at Goochland High School.

 Nadia was recognized as the high school recipient of the Garvis Huff Memorial Outstanding Youth and Youth Advocate Awards Ceremony at the Orange County High School auditorium for her “courage, community service and leadership.”  Despite ongoing health issues, Nadia has served as a Sunday school teacher and church volunteer, as a volunteer for the Pregnancy Centers of Orange and Special Olympics bowling, and as an ambassador for People to People.  To see more about the Garvis Huff award and Nadia, click on: http://www.dailyprogress.com/orangenews/entertainment_life/honoring-the-outstanding/article_fd4825a6-f282-11e5-abfd-7b0668a1bc2f.html

Mr. Brett Derrico was recognized as Goochland High School’s Teacher of the Year for 2015-16.  He has served as World History teacher for BRVGS ninth graders and as BRVGS Senior Advisor at GHS for the past several years.  Mr. Derrico has also organized overseas travel to Europe for students at GHS in addition to his classroom duties.  With this recognition, Mr. Derrico will be nominated as a candidate for the Goochland County Teacher of the Year.  

 BRVGS is very proud of Nadia and Mr. Derrico for these outstanding accomplishments.
