End of Year Surveys and Message from Mr. Carraway

Dear Blue Ridge Virtual Governor’s School students, parents and staff,

As we wind down this strange and challenging school year, I wanted to send a brief message to all of our students, staff and families regarding recent events and the future for BRVGS.  In regard to recent events, I want to say how proud I am of so many of our students for their hard work and constant communication under difficult circumstances.  I also want to commend BRVGS teachers for their efforts in putting together a truly “virtual” learning experience for the remainder of the school year, and for the care and concern that they have all shown for their students since the closing of school.

I particularly want to commend our seniors - I know this year did not end as all of us expected or wanted it to, in terms of helping you all to celebrate your accomplishments throughout high school and BRVGS - but we are really, really proud of you all, and wish you all the best of luck.  Please stay in touch with us in BRVGS, as we want to know about your new adventures after high school.

I do want to remind students and parents that for the few students who have not been submitting required work, completion is required in order to continue on in BRVGS next year.  Students for who we have not received work will be notified that they are in danger of being dismissed, and will have a final opportunity to submit work as required.

I also want to let parents and students know that we have emailed brief end-of-year surveys to you today.  Participation in those surveys is not required, but your responses will help us to identify areas of need as we plan for the future of BRVGS.

We are also launching 2 new resource websites for students and parents today, and have asked for feedback on those sites in the surveys that we sent out.  The 1st site is for student Personal Development and Wellness, which is now a key focal area for BRVGS.  The 2nd site is for Academic Success skills.  It provides tips and resources on time management, study skills, research and writing, and how to survive online learning.  These sites were in the works prior to the current crisis, but we have only now been able to get them finished up and published.  We hope you find them helpful. They are both located under the menus of this website.

Finally, I want to remind both students and parents that it is critical that students check their BRVGS email, even as we head into the summer.   We will be sending information on senior internship possibilities to next year’s seniors, scheduling and course registration info to rising juniors, and AP Biology review work to next year’s 10th graders.  We may even have some last-minute scholarship opportunities for this year’s graduates.

Please feel free to contact me by email or phone (or use the contact BRVGS button on our website) if you have any questions.  I hope that you all have a good start to the summer, and that you all stay well.

Take care,

Marc Carraway - Director, Blue Ridge Virtual Governor's School
