Dear BRVGS 9th grade students (and parents of BRVGS 9th graders),
I hope that you are all doing well as we start this week. I wanted to catch up to let you know where things are headed with BRVGS World History activities for the remainder of the year.
1st, many of you have contacted me or your teachers with questions regarding your semester project. Your "PRO/CON" assignments were posted on the Group Topic Assignment sheet today. Please note that you must be signed into your BRVGS account to access the sheet - we will not share the sheet to local school accounts (if you can't see the sheet, that means you are signed into a local or personal email, not BRVGS). You will have the opportunity to finish the project in one of several ways:
You can create a slideshow support your side's position with voice-overs or a video in collaboration with some or all of your group members. IMPORTANT: If you believe that you would like to complete this with a group, you need to get in touch with your group via your project group emails address to make sure who in your group is willing to do that as well. We will be surveying students to find out who wants to do the project assignment with their group, so please keep on the lookout for that.
You can write a two page "Op-Ed" (a position-based editorial) supporting your group's position, and advocating a specific solution to your topic scenario.
You can create a multi-media or hand-drawn series of "commercials" designed to convince others on your position
There may be some other opportunities for finishing this - please check in with your teacher if you have other ideas
Your project completion will not be given and "A, B or C " - type of grade (unless you do a level of work that has the potential to improve your overall grade - but it must be successfully completed for you to be considered to have completed the World History II course for BRVGS. We will be back in touch this week to let you know more specific guidelines, but I wanted you to have an idea about how you will complete this project. Once assigned, you will have several weeks to accomplish this activity.
2nd, you will be provided with several assignments for completion of the last 3 units of the World History course. Your teachers and I are working on a set of choices for activities and a book reading assignment to learn the material from those units. You will begin to receive those assignments on April 13th. Again, these activities will not be for grades - but they must be successfully completed for you to be considered to have completed the World History II course for BRVGS.
For now, please keep an eye on your BRVGS email and let me know of any questions. I will be back in touch soon. In the meantime, take care -
Mr. Carraway
