As part of one of our BRVGS Senior Projects, the Brightwood General Store in Madison County is having a free concert to provide a fundraising opportunity for their new coffee shop, as well as to spark enthusiasm for local music within our community. It will be held on Saturday, January 14 from 4PM-11PM. There will be a bake sale as well as an opportunity for members of our community to donate and help create an artistic hub right here in Madison County. As we wind down this semester's projects and presentations, we are reminded of how much our students have learned and have grown since the beginning of this school year. This year has been particularly challenging to our students, staff members, schools and communities, and everyone has risen to those challenges and transcended inconvenience and uncertainty to do great work so far this year. We are looking forward to meeting new challenges in 2012, and in the meantime, we wish everyone in BRVGS, along with their families, the happiest, safest and most relaxing of holidays and a Happy New Year!
World History Website Contest

To view the World History sites, go to: https://sites.google.com/a/brvgs.k12.va.us/wh-11-semester-1/ In the interest of sharing the accomplishments of these student, we are holding a "Website Contest" in which students and the general public will vote separately for their favorite websites in the following categories: 1. Most Appealing Appearance Click on BRVGS Website Voting to find links to the voting forms. Voting will be open until 10:00 AM on December 30th. Each set of schools (OGM and FGLN) will have winners in each of those categories, and winning groups will receive prizes once all voting is done. The 9th grade students of the BRVGS World History classes have recently completed a group website project, in which teams of students from different BRVGS schools feature the most important inventions (as determined by the team) of different historical civilizations. The teams were grouped geographically into two different sets of schools for logistics - Orange, Greene and Madison (otherwise known as "OGM") students created one set of sites, while the Fluvanna, Goochland, Louisa and Nelson ("FGLN") created the other. BRVGS and CBF Team Up For Watershed Education
Students of Blue Ridge Virtual Governor's School Biotechnology classes from Fluvanna, Greene, Madison and Nelson Counties took part in the Chesapeake Bay Foundation'sVirginia Watershed Education Program during the first week of November. Depending on their location, students spent the day in canoes on the Rivanna River, James River or the Charlottesville Reservoir. Students performed water testing and caught and counted macroinvertebrate organisms to determine the water quality.
