BRVGS Seniors Fundraise For Great Causes

BRVGS Seniors are raising funds for a variety of great causes as part of their senior internship, research and community service projects.  For example, Willow Mayer and Anna Ryder of Madison County High School are raising funds to support an overseas school - you can see more on their efforts in a recent Madison Eagle article titled "Paying It Forward."

In Louisa, Ethan Snyder is helping to fundraise for the proposed new William A. Cooke Sports Complex in Louisa County through a GoFundMe page.  Alex Lagon of Louisa is raising funds to buy sanitary supplies for women in need in Lousia County, and has also established a GoFundMe page for that cause.  Riley Bass of Goochland is hosting an archery game fundraiser on November 3rd to support a 3D Archery Team at GHS (see our facebook page for Rilie's flyer and more info on that). 

BRVGS is appreciative of any support offered to these students through their fundraising mechanisms, and we encourage other seniors who may be working on raising funds through promotions or website donations to contact Mr. Carraway so that BRVGS can assist with promotion of these causes.  

BRVGS Application Process for 2020-21 Gets Under Way

UPDATED Oct. 1, 2019:

Applications for entry into Blue Ridge Virtual Governor's School for the 2020-21 school year is now available in local middle school counseling offices (most schools) or through gifted coordinators at our member district middle schools. 

A downloadable, printable Microsoft Word version of the application is now available on the admissions page our website at: /application2/.  A Google Docs version is available by clicking on "BRVGS Student Application 2019-20" - the doc can be copied or downloaded by clicking on "File at the upper left-hand side of the doc.  

As part of the application process, BRVGS Director Marc Carraway will conduct informational meetings at all member district middle schools, on the following dates and times:

BRVGS Senior Launches "Us, Now" Podcast

Ginny Helmandollar, a BRVGS senior at Louisa County High School, has launched her own podcasts on Spotify, for the purpose of exploring a range of current and pressing issues for high school students. 

Her first podcast, on "Student Burnout," features a discussion with high school students, teachers and counselors on the issue of student burnout and strategies to think about and deal with this very real issue.  BRVGS students and others can find some valuable insights and information in the discussion.

BRVGS Senior Hosts Stretching Class

As part of her BRVGS Senior Project on physical therapy, Fluvanna senior Margarette Wentz will be teaming with two physical therapists from Spectrum Physical Therapy to offer a free stretching class this coming Saturday (Sept. 28) at Fluvanna County High School. The stretching class will last from 10:00am to 11:00 am. Complimentary injury screenings will follow the class. BRVGS Grad Has A Big Adventure In Store!

Blue Ridge Governor's School / Nelson County High School graduate Sinead Nardi-White (class of 2019) has an exciting year ahead of her this year.  Sinead made the decision to take a "gap year" and to give her time and energy to help others.  She will do that by working as a carpenter's apprentice and English teacher in Senegal, Africa, through a program called Global Citizen Year.  Sinead, who spent a semester as a United States Senate Page while in high school, began her adventure on August 25th and will be in Senegal for 8 months.  To read more about Sinead's trip, please click on https://www.newsadvance.com/nelson_county_times/news/nelson-grad-set-for-months-in-senegal/article_0f2106e0-ca20-5f2b-aad2-02ab5b30a03c.html  We at BRVGS are very proud of Sinead!
