BRVGS is Partnering with the STARS College Network for College Advising

Blue Ridge Virginia Governor’s School is partnering with the STARS College Network as part of its College Advisor Program! STARS stands for “Small Town and Rural Students”

Students who are interested in attending a selective four-year college or university and would like one-on-one support for their college search, applications, and financial aid process, are encouraged to register to participate in the STARS College Advisor Program.

The program is optional, free of charge, and designed to support students and families through every step of the college application process, regardless of which college or university a student ultimately chooses to attend.

Here is a brief overview of what STARS College Advising provides to students:

  • Help with identifying and locating colleges and universities that fit student interests and needs

  • Planning application strategies around where, when, and how to apply

  • Advising on all application details, including activities lists, essay writing, etc.

  • Navigating the financial aid process, including completing the FAFSA and other financial aid or scholarship applications

Once a student is registered and parents/guardians have given their permission for the student to participate, they will then be able to sign up for one-on-one college advisor sessions via Zoom. Students can sign up for sessions as much as they would like to guide them through the entire college application process.
