Mrs. Johnston is MCHS "Teacher of the Year for Teaching"

BRVGS is proud to note that Shannon Johnston, BRVGS World History teacher at Madison County High School, was chosen as the "Teacher of the Year," specifically for her instructional accomplishments, at MCHS for 2016-17.  Mrs. Johnston has been teaching for BRVGS and MCHS for the past three years, with experience in a range of prior teaching and educational roles before coming to Madison. She incorporates a wide variety of innovative and technology-based teaching strategies in her BRVGS class, bringing the past to life with her engaging instruction.  BRVGS congratulates Mrs. Johnston for this well-deserved recognition!

BRVGS Welcomes Upcoming 9th Grader with Orientations in July 2017

BRVGS is excited to welcome the upcoming 9th grade classes from Fluvanna County, Goochland County, Greene County, Louisa County, Madison County, Nelson County, and Orange County!

There are two orientations scheduled in July.  Please note that attendance at an orientation is NOT required.  Please also take note of the one for your school district:

The Orientation for students from Fluvanna, Goochland, Louisa, and Nelson is scheduled for July 19, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Best Western in Zion Crossroads.

The Orienation for students from Greene, Madison, and Orange is scheduled for July 26, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Guiseppi Center in Stanardsville.

Parents should have received a letter about the orientations in the mail with a postcard to RSVP. If you did not receive this or have questions concerning this, please contact Kristi Bunovich at KBunovich@BRVGS.k12.va.us

If your summer travel plans prevent attendance to your school's orientation, students may attend the other Orientation session. Please note that bus transportation will NOT be provided for your child to the alternate orientation.  Parents who wish for their child to attend the alternate session must contact BRVGS Administrative Assistant Kristi Bunovich by email at KBunovich@BRVGS.k12.va.us NO LATER than May 19, 2017 to register for the alternate session.

Here are a few details concerning our Orientations:

  • Again, attendance at a BRVGS Orientation is NOT mandatory for students.
  • Both orientation sessions will feature the exact same content, so students should only plan to attend one.
  • BRVGS Freshman Orientation is for students and teachers only.  The purpose is to introduce new students to their classmates from other BRVGS districts, to provide an overview of their upcoming BRVGS World History course, to get them started with BRVGS technology, and to begin student training on some of the learning skills specific to BRVGS.

  • There will be a brief information session at 2:30 for parents, who wish to attend.

  • The orientation and information session are NOT mandatory.  It is recommended, but NOT required.

  • Lunch will be provided. Please advise Kristi Bunovich ahead of time for any special dietary needs.

BRVGS Seniors Shine At Senior Expos!

BRVGS Seniors shared the results of their capstone projects at two Expos this past week.  Each student had served an internship with an expert mentor in a topic of their choice, had researched a critical question related to that topic, and applied that knowledge in a community service project.  Topics ranged from water quality in school buildings to applications for lasers.

The first expo, primarily for students of Fluvanna, Louisa and Nelson counties, was held on Monday at Best Western Zion Crossroads, and the second, for students of Goochland, Greene, Madison and Orange counties was held at the Taylor Education Administration Complex in Orange.  Judges from BRVGS schools and community graciously donated their time and effort to visit with and evaluate each student.

Our students represented their projects and their schools very professionally, and we at BRVGS are incredibly proud of their efforts all year long.  Congratulations to the BRVGS classes of 2017!

BRVGS Senior will bring SMILES to Orange County!

As part of her senior internship experience for the Blue Ridge Virtual Governor's School, Orange County High School student Corrine Marr is helping to organize the The SmileS Adaptive Carnival at Lake of the Woods in Orange County this summer on Sunday, July 9th, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

The SMILES Carnival will be a day on the water open to all children and adults who are differently-abled. There will be carnival games, kayaking, paddle boarding, fishing, tubing, pontoon rides, and of course adaptive waterskiing. Lunch, snacks, and goodie bags will be provided free of charge. Feel free to bring friends and family to enjoy the day with us!
